Scott Hack:

Hey, everybody. Thanks for joining the Real Estate Distilled Podcast. I'm one of your hosts, Scott Hack. I'm here today with my wife, Liz Hack, our cohost. Hi, Liz.

Liz Hack:

Hey, everybody.

Scott Hack:

So today is our first episode of the Real Estate Distilled Podcast, our inaugural episode. And we're excited today to tell you a little bit of the background story of what Real Estate Distilled is, what we hope to accomplish with this podcast, and who we are as your hosts. However, if you're not interested in that, you can go ahead and skip to the next couple episodes. We've already prepared episode 23 with our guest speakers, Antonio Cousin and Patrick Keller. So we're gonna go ahead and have those ready for you.

Scott Hack:

So if you're not interested in who we are or why we're doing this, go ahead and skip to those episodes.

Liz Hack:

Yeah. Both those guys spoke at our, 2024 conference, I believe in a breakout. Right?

Scott Hack:

Absolutely. Mhmm. So bringing up conference, so what is Real Estate Distilled the Conference list?

Liz Hack:

Real Estate Distilled the Conference. Gosh. We started it 8 years ago. It's 2024 right now. We're about to head into 2025.

Liz Hack:

And we, we we've had 7 conferences over the last 8 years, COVID as it did with everything, threw a wrench in our plans. So, the conference though is a national real estate residential real estate conference focusing on marketing, lead generation. And what I like to tell people, Scott, it's it's all about the things that they don't teach you in class. You know, you gotta you gotta learn about the ethics and you gotta learn about the contracts and you gotta learn about, you know, how to be a good real estate agent, and how to, like, pay your dues and your e and o and all that. But they don't teach you in those classes, when you're getting your license, how to run a business or how to find leads or how to recruit or, you know, how to have systems in place so that you can be successful and not just run everywhere with your hair on fire.

Liz Hack:

And so I feel like over the last 8 years, that's what we've brought to the community time and time again. Things that are super, easy to implement into your business, that really focus on developing clear and easy strategies that win.

Scott Hack:

Yeah. 100%. So going back to the conference, like Liz said, in 2018 when we hosted our first first conference, I I went to Liz and I asked her if she would help me put together a conference, and we put together, you know, from our backgrounds, we have different skill sets. And I've concentrated on the content and the speakers, and Liz will tell you a little bit about her background. And she's focused mostly on our sponsorship program and the logistics of our venues and the caters and things like that.

Scott Hack:

But we really started Real Estate Distilled to fill a need. So at the time, and I still feel like today, the independent broker market and the smaller brokerages, in general weren't being served with an option that was affordable. So you'll notice that, if you go to our real estate distilled.com website that our value is really important to us in what we're doing. So we've got a a very low ticket cost. We host in Louisville, Kentucky, which is our home, but also gives us the opportunity to have hotel rooms that are closer to a $150 instead of 300 or 3.50 like in some other top tier cities.

Scott Hack:

And we're able to put together a top tier event without breaking somebody's bank. So, again, I said that, Liz and I are married. We've got 2 kids, a 11 year old and an 8 year old at the time of this recording. And I have a residential real estate focused brokerage called Finish Line Realty, and it's me and about 11 agents. We help people in the Metro Louisville area as well as at a vacation lake, in Central Kentucky called No Lynn.

Scott Hack:

And, I've been in the business now for 15 or 16 years, Liz.

Liz Hack:

It's a long time.

Scott Hack:

Well, you know.

Liz Hack:

Yeah. No. I'm married to this guy over here. We've been married now 13 years.

Scott Hack:

We're not doing a math test right now.

Liz Hack:

Okay. Super. And before we, before I even met Scott, I was working in the nonprofit industry, as a fundraising consultant, and I worked with, you know, gosh, small to medium sized nonprofits that needed help understanding how to raise money. And that's what we helped them do, You know, everything from doing events to raising capital dollars to everything in between. And so I love that, but during COVID, things changed.

Liz Hack:

And so I got my real estate license at the behest of my broker, Scott Hack at Finish Line Realty. And, I I enjoyed that for a season. However, I I found another passion of mine with, with the N2 company and working with affluent neighbors in the city of Louisville. And so now I am the publisher owner of a publication that goes to the one of the most affluent communities in the city of Louisville, and it is all about the folks that live there. And we actually have, several in the community, and I just love connecting community and building that in lots of different ways, which is why when Scott asked me, hey, Liz.

Liz Hack:

I wanna start this conference in in, 2018. I was able to feel feel good like we could do it. We could actually put this together. Scott has won has had wonderful contacts all across the country from, other conferences that he has been a part of, and I was able because of my background, was able to feel comfortable meeting with hotels and meeting with with conference space and creating a sponsorship program that would invite folk folks who want to be a part of a community like ours to, to be in the room with, with agents who want to learn about building a business and working on their business, at the conference. So, that with those experiences, Real Estate Distilled was born, basically.

Scott Hack:

Yeah. So, I mean, we've we've been asked this now for a while. So I always tell people that, although we started Real Estate Distilled in in 2018, we're we're every every year, we, you know, we wanna make it a new experience. We wanna make it better, and we don't necessarily wanna make it bigger. We are a boutique conference, so we're always trying to focus on the relationships that are taking place and being built in the community and inside that room.

Liz Hack:

Yeah. We love that part of

Scott Hack:

it. Yeah.

Liz Hack:

That's really the most important part for us.

Scott Hack:

And after this time, coming up on our our 7th event, there's so many people that, are almost like family that now are now part of the community. We have a Facebook group, on that that's part of our community as well, the Real Estate Distilled Facebook group where we're able to keep the conversation going throughout the year, share things. When people come to the conference and they meet someone, they're learning things from people from the stage, but they also now have the opportunity to, call up that person they're sitting next to on a random Thursday and ask them a question. So that to me, that's one of the the biggest values that we're able to bring is putting all those people together and then learning from each other. So, what is it that, that that quote list that we'd like to talk about about a rising tide?

Liz Hack:

With a rising tide, all ships will sail.

Scott Hack:

Yeah. So we she and I have a little joke about that. So we say the same thing that we just say it a little bit differently. But, we're gonna wrap this up and then jump right into our first official episode with one of our guests. So I wanna thank you for coming on this journey with us.

Liz Hack:

Yeah. Thanks so much for being here with us.

Scott Hack:

Yeah. So we're really we're really excited to, to bring the Real Estate Distilled podcast to the community and introduce the Real Estate Distilled brand and community to a new audience. So we hope

Liz Hack:

Don't forget about our newsletter.

Scott Hack:

Yes. Yes. High Proof, has been fairly fairly consistent. So we're working to bring highproof to people on a monthly basis as well. So this is just another channel and avenue that we can share distilled information, with with our listeners and our viewers.

Scott Hack:

So we hope that you have a thirst for knowledge, and you're here to join us.

Liz Hack:

Thanks, everybody. We hope you enjoy Real Estate Distilled, the podcast.
